Single mom, should I stay home, start a home business, or go to work?
I am a single mom to a 7 month old. I have been staying home with some assistance from the father, but the assistance has run out and now I only have a child support payment that is able to cover my bills and that is it. It breaks my heart to leave my son to go to work but would it be best in the long run to start my career so I can provide for us in the future? I have also thought about trying to start a freelance design business (I have a graphic design degree) but it is difficult to find time with a new baby. I never wanted to be a single mom, I had always envisioned being a SAHM until my kids went to school. Thanks for the input!
When my son was first born I stayed at home and depended on my parents to take care of us. I was lucky as most parents probably wouldn’t do that. (Just some back ground yes I was an adult not a child when this happened and yes I was married when I got pregnant, my husband left me)
When I finally made the decision to leave my son to go to work I started out working nights and left my sleeping son with my parents. My son never knew I was gone but I soon became very tired and depressed from working all night and staying up all day with him.
I eventually found a standard 9-5 job that paid enough for me to cover my living expenses (rent, utilites, groceries, clothes) but I missed staying home with my son.
My son is now in school and I am married and work From Home.
The only advice I can give you is no matter what option you choose, getting a job, staying at home, working from home, its going to be hard and you are always going to wonder if making a different decision would have been easier. Just follow your heart and concentrate on being the best mom you can be. Everything will eventually fall into place.
